The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York has cancelled a planned major exhibition celebrating British fashion designer John Galliano after significant public backlash. Galliano, who was convicted in 2011 for making antisemitic and racist remarks that led to his dismissal from Dior, personally decided to withdraw from the exhibition after reflection and consultation with the museum. The planned May 2027 show was particularly controversial because it would have coincided with Holocaust Remembrance Day and occurred during a period of heightened antisemitism.
